When I heard about the O2A2 (Only one of Any Asset) I thought I had a great idea for it. I'd been wanting to use the cybernetic war unicorns Pauli and Baldr in something for  years, and visually I thought Pauli floating in her tank while Baldr talked to her from offscreen would look great. And I think it did.

But the thousand words the jam allows turned out to be more of a limitation than I expected! I wrote the story, and then it was way too long. So I cut, and cut, and cut, and finally got something that fit in the allowable count. I hope what's left makes sense, but there's not enough of it and it's not everything I wanted it to be. So even while working on the game I was thinking of expanding it later.

Especially if anyone played it.

I didn't think anybody would. 

But people did! 

Way more of you than I expected! Not that many by internet standards, but a TON by my personal standards! So I'm already working on an expanded version called Unicorn Reclamation+.

UR+ will probably still be very short, but it already has over twice as many words as the original, with a lot more writing yet to go.

Specific things I am Planning:

Expanded Sound--This is mostly already done. The sound standards for visual novels are pretty low. I put in interface sounds and some free music I got online, and tweaked some other things. The only things I'm lacking are original music and voice actors; see below for more about that.

More Art--A sprite for Baldr, at least one more pose for Pauli, and a series of ending CGs. This part is going pretty well. If there's one thing I can always count on from myself, it's that I will draw mountains of weird furry art.

A More Complete Narrative and Gameplay Experience--I want to put some meat on this thing's bones in terms of dialogue and choices. I've already written some more dialogue options and added the possibility of, if not failure, then at least losing progress. When I'm done, I'd like Pauli to be less of a thirsty masochist and more of an unusually obstinate Shin Megami Tensai demon who is also a thirsty masochist. The overall story will remain the same, I just want there to be more of it.

Things I Would Like to Do, but Might Not Get To:

A Glossary--You know what I love? World Building. You know what I hate? Exposition. There's a lot more to this world than I've explained in the game. It'd be nice to have a place where readers who like lore could click and read about what all the made up sci-fi words in the game mean. In a sortable list. The prospect seems a bit daunting, and I'm not sure how much it would add to the game (aside from a lot more words), but I'd like to give it a try. There must be resources for doing this in Ren'Py.

Horizontal Expansion--While UR is a simple story, I still think it has some possibilities for branching and at least a couple more endings. I'm also considering adding flashbacks/flashforwards with more sprites and backgrounds, though I'm hesitant about this because I don't want to dilute the core element of the story being about two people having a conversation in one place.

Voice Acting and OST--These would be great, but they would also cost money, and I'm not really interested in raising funds. Or even charging money for UR. This game exists because of my own willingness to do massive amounts of unpaid labor for myself, and that's FINE. Hobbies are good.

So, yeah. I'm not sure what the timeframe for all this is; I'm working on UR+ in spare moments. I don't think it will take long, though. A few months, if that.
